Spring into STEAM: Space Out!

Take a journey to outer space! Learn about distant star constellations and galaxies, and discover the technologies needed for space exploration during our annual Spring into STEAM event. Spring into STEAM is the San Diego Public Library’s science-focused program series for 9 - 12 years old students. We are partnering with local science experts and organizations to create a truly unique educational experience. Workshops take place both in-person and virtually during the months of March, April, and May.

Come celebrate with us as we launch Space Out, our eighth annual Spring into STEAM program! Discover the programs for this year and be sure to register! Come meet amazing community partners, participate in interactive space-themed activities, and see live demonstrations! All ages are welcome to this free event!

 

   Spring into STEAM is being offered in-person and virtually via Zoom.
Please read event descriptions carefully to determine the format of the program.

 

Portable Planetarium - Explore the Night Sky

Take an out-of-this-world journey inside the portable planetarium! Explore the night sky, visit constellations and galaxies, and learn about our solar system. This is an interactive program that includes special effects, such as lasers and music.

Blast off with Mad Science - Living in Space

Experience the life of an astronaut as you “suit up” for space flight! Use teamwork to complete an important space mission and learn how Ground Control connects with astronauts across the vast distance of space, build a model space station, and make your very own Spacewalk Challenge!

Expedition to Mars

Participants will work on building Arduino-based robotic space-related projects, while learning about electronics, mechanics, & robotics sub-systems in a fun way. Participants will be using specially designed didactic STEM robotics bricks, gears, axles, DC & servo motors, sensors, and controllers.

Stellar Star Projector
