Celebrate the 10th anniversary of Spring into STEAM with San Diego Public Library. Ta-Da! The Science of Magic, invites youth to step behind the curtain and uncover the science behind amazing illusions. Each workshop combines hands-on STEM activities with a touch of magical fun.

About Spring into STEAM

Launched in 2016, Spring into STEAM is SDPL’s science-focused program series for youth ages 6 – 12. It is held March, April and May, with a new theme and focus each year. By partnering with local science experts and organizations to host workshops, SDPL aims to create a unique educational experience.

Join us at the San Diego Festival of Science & Engineering as we celebrate 10 years of Spring into STEAM with Ta-Da, the science of magic! Stop by SDPL’s booth to explore this year’s exciting programs, register, and take part in an interactive hands-on STEAM activity. 

This event is completely FREE and open to the public! No registration or tickets required. Come on down and join us, rain or shine, for a day filled with 100+ hands-on activities, stage performances and more! Great for all ages, pre-K to gray!

Science Made Magical Workshop

Challenge Island presents a hands-on STEAM adventure where science transforms into wizardry. Participants will create their own lava lamps and kaleidoscopes.

Ultraviolet Three-Dice Miracle Workshop

Magic meets math in this Toshwerks-led workshop! With numbers and classic stage flair, participants will learn a simple dice-rolling trick to “read” minds. They will also create their own magic wand pen and dive into the art of color theory, matter changes and more.

Magical Adventures & Illusions in STEMverse Workshop

LKW Stem Foundation is taking students on a trip through four magical stations: Potion Power, Illusion Alley, Inventor’s Forge and Code Spells. Kids will love the fun experiments, puzzles and creations at each stop.

Virtual Reality Workshop: Illusions & Wizardry

Explore optical illusions by experimenting with magnifying glasses and mirrors to bend light, create dazzling effects and learn how our eyes “see” with virtual reality. Hands-On Technology gets participants to go on a magical adventure using VR headsets to explore potion chemistry and more.
