Montgomery Field Master Plan Update

An airport master plan documents the long-term development concept proposed for an airport. Simply stated, the Master Plan Update serves as a "roadmap" for the development of Montgomery Field Airport over a twenty-year period. The Master Plan displays the concept graphically in the form of an Airport Layout Plan (ALP) and provides supporting documentation in an accompanying written report.

The current Airport Master Plan is over twenty years old. The goal of the Airport Master Plan is to provide guidelines for the future development of Montgomery Field that will satisfy projected aviation demand in a financially feasible manner, while at the same time resolving key aviation, community, environmental, and socioeconomic issues.

The City of San Diego Airport Advisory Committee (AAC) served as the Master Plan Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). The AAC meets monthly and master plan issues can be discussed at these meetings. Montgomery Field contains a Multiple Habitat Protection Area (MHPA). Part of the Master Plan includes a MHPA Boundary Adjustment, which must be approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife and California Fish and Game Departments. As a prerequisite to this approval, they have required a vernal pool restoration. This restoration project is currently in progress. When completed and approved by the agencies, the Master Plan will be submitted to the Council for approval.
