Positions in the Auditor's Office are divided into three types: Classified Represented (Acct Trainee, Acct I/II, Clerical), Classified Unrepresented (Acct IV, Information Systems Analyst II/III) and Unclassified Unrepresented. Classified Represented - Subject to step increases, represented by Municipal Employees Association, covered under the Civil Service provisions of the Charter in regards to selection, promotion and removal. Classified Unrepresented - Not subject to step increases, not represented by Municipal Employees Association, covered under the Civil Service provisions mentioned above. Unclassified Unrepresented - Not subject to step increases, not represented by Municipal Employees Association, not covered under the Civil Service provisions. These positions include Principal Accountant, Division Manager, Assistant Auditor and Comptroller, and Auditor and Comptroller. Accountant TraineeAll classified Accountant positions in the department must start at the Accountant Trainee level for at least 6 months. They are on probationary period for 1 year before obtaining permanent status after which they may career advance to Accountant I. This could be sooner if they have prior professional accounting experience. Supervisors can be contacted for Career Advancement forms. Accountant IOnce career advanced to Accountant I, employee will be on a probationary period for six months for this new classification. After satisfactory performance of the six months probationary period, employee is considered a permanent employee for that classification and after meeting the minimum requirements, can apply for career advancement to Accountant II. Accountant IIOnce career advanced to an Accountant II, employee will be on a probationary period for six months for this new classification. After satisfactory performance of the six months probationary period, employee is considered a permanent employee for that classification. Accountant III and Accountant IVAccountant III and IV positions are considered promotional job openings and will be announced by the department. If employee meets the minimum requirements for Accountant III or Accountant IV, he/she must apply with Personnel to be placed on an eligible list for upcoming promotions. Once on the list, applicant will be contacted for an interview by our department and may be requested to send a letter of interest and resume. Employee will be on a probationary period for six months for this new classification. After satisfactory performance of the six months probationary period, employee is considered a permanent employee for that classification. Management PositionsWhen a vacancy occurs, staff is notified and asked to submit a Letter of Interest along with a Resume if interested in applying for the position available. Executive Team normally performs interviews and selects candidate from that pool. Clerical PositionsThe Clerical Series positions are an open classification, meaning that they are open to anyone that meets the qualifications stated on the Personnel Job Announcement for that particular position. In the Auditor's Department, the positions of Clerical Assistant II and Micrographics Clerk are considered "entry level", from which one can promote to other clerical positions, as they become available. Current positions available in the clerical series include: Clerical Assistant II, Micrographics Clerk, Account Audit Clerk, Senior Audit Account Clerk, Word Processing Operator, Payroll Specialist II, Payroll Audit Specialist (I, II), Payroll Audit Supervisor, and Executive Secretary. When a vacancy occurs for these positions, the department will request a "Certified List" from Personnel, from which to select candidates to participate in the interview process that will take place in our department. Once hired into the clerical series, the new hire is on a probationary period for 1 year before obtaining permanent status. After satisfactory performance of the 1-year probationary period, employee is considered a permanent employee for that classification. |
