Mission Bay Park Committee
Duties
To advise the Park & Recreation Board, Mayor, City Council, and City Manager on policy issues relating to the acquisition, development, maintenance, and operation of Mission Bay Park.
Appointment
Appointed by Mayor and confirmed by Council.
Term
Two (2) year staggered terms for a maximum of eight consecutive years. Each member shall serve until his or her successor is duly appointed and qualified.
Composition
Composed of fifteen (15) members. The Mayor shall appoint members subject to the following conditions: one member will be from among the members of the Park and Recreation Board who shall be Chair. Two members shall be appointed at large; the Mayor shall either appoint four members from at least five nominees provided by the Councilmember who represents all of Mission Bay Park, or if two Council Districts include a portion of Mission Bay Park, each Councilmember who represents Mission Bay Park shall each have three nominations of which two from each Councilmember shall be appointed by the Mayor. One member will be a Mission Bay lessee who shall represent a hotel in the Park. One member will be a Mission Bay lessee who shall represent a lessee in the Park other than a hotel. One member will be a Mission Bay Park stakeholder, who shall be a member of an association which uses the recreational waters or parkland of Mission Bay Park. One member will be of a non-profit environmental organization. The following planning groups officially recognized by the City pursuant to Council Policy 600-24 shall nominate one member to be appointed by the Mayor; one member from the planning group representing the Clairemont Mesa neighborhood; one member from the planning group representing the Mission Beach neighborhood; one member from the planning group representing the Ocean Beach neighborhood; one member from the planning group representing the Pacific Beach neighborhood.
