Chief Deputy City Attorney of the Public Finance, Securities, and Disclosure Unit of the San Diego City Attorney’s Office
San Diego City Attorney Michael Aguirre is seeking an attorney to lead the Public Finance,
Securities, and Disclosure Unit. This Unit provides structuring and legal advice to various City
departments with respect to the issuance of debt obligations, including obligations payable from
the City’s general fund, Departments for Wastewater and Water, Housing Authority, and
Redevelopment Agency.
This position was created by the San Diego City Council, (Ordinance 19320), which was adopted
October 11, 2004.
The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about the requirements of Section 103 of the
Internal Revenue Code and federal and state securities laws as applicable to municipal securities.
Ideal candidates will have at least five years municipal finance experience covering a broad
range of municipal finance transactions, due diligence practices and procedures, federal
securities laws, familiarity with California debt finance practice and California municipal law.
The successful candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Public
speaking is required.

Criminal Division
Legal Interns
The Criminal Division of the City Attorney's Office hires volunteer legal interns who are in their second or third year of law school. Each semester and summer, interns are assigned to one of the following units: the Appellate Unit, the Consumer and Environmental Protection Unit, the Domestic Violence and Special Victims Unit, the Drug Abatement Response Team Unit, the Neighborhood Prosecution Unit, the Screening and Arraignment Unit, and the Trial Unit.
Legal interns assist attorneys in all stages of prosecuting misdemeanor offenses, including domestic violence, thefts, DUI's, traffic crimes, graffiti, prostitution, drug-related offenses, alcohol-related crimes, batteries, sex crimes, consumer and environmental crimes, drug abatement, and other misdemeanors. Interns have the opportunity to assist with researching, writing and arguing pre-trial motions, jury trial preparation, and other special projects. If eligible to become certified under the California State Bar's Practical Training of Law Students program, interns will have the opportunity to conduct bench trials on infraction cases.
