The Neighborhood Prosecution Unit, in cooperation with the San Diego Police Department, other agencies, and the community, works aggressively and creatively to combat crimes that reduce the quality of life in San Diego neighborhoods. These include prostitution, graffiti, vandalism, gang offenses, disturbing the peace, alcohol and drug offenses, and transient offenses. Deputy City Attorneys work in targeted neighborhoods side-by-side with police officers and community members on problem-solving initiatives. These Neighborhood Prosecutors listen to the concerns of community members, forging partnerships to implement innovative strategies to reduce quality of life crime. NPU also partners with problem-solving community courts, including a Beach Area Community Court, Homeless Court, Behavioral Health Court, Prostitution Impact Panel, and Veterans Treatment Court. The goal of the unit is to forge partnerships with the police and the community to create a more responsive and community-oriented criminal justice system.
