Labor & Employment Unit
This unit provides legal support and advice to all city departments on issues pertaining to labor relations, employment matters, benefits and issues between the City and its employees. This unit prepares legislative documents regarding labor issues, staffs various commissions and boards, advises on retirement and assists in litigation matters that arise related to unfair labor practices filed against the City. They meet and confer with all 5 Employee Association representatives and ensure compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws, including ADA, EEO, FLSA, FMLA, FEHA and Title VII. This unit handles all workplace violence TRO’s and manages disciplinary actions in the workplace.
The attorneys in this unit also advise the Corporate Sponsorship Program and Lifeguard Service on all issues.
Additional work includes the draft and review of contracts generated by represented City departments and assist on Public Records Act requests.
