Keeping our beaches and bays clean for swimming, surfing and fishing is one of my top priorities as a member of the City Council. To make clean water a top priority for the City Council, Mayor Murphy made "Cleaning up our beaches and bays" Goal 4 in the top 10 priorities of his administration, and set an aggressive goal of cutting beach and bay closures by 50% in four years. He asked that I work with him to achieve this goal and together we created the Clean Water Task Force, which I co-chair with the Mayor. The Task Force is a diverse group of representatives from the business, environmental, regulatory, and academic communities who work with elected officials to develop strategies to improve water quality at our beaches.
Below are links to the Clean Water Task Force’s goals and principals, as well as a list of water quality improvement projects being pursued by the City that were developed with the help of the Task Force. The City has been very successful in funding many of these projects, and believe that these projects will help to improve water quality in the near term.
