Project S.W.E.L.L.
On May 2, 2003 Councilman Scott Peters and Mayor Murphy, Co-Chairs of the City's Clean Water Task Force, Superintendent Alan Bersin, and Bruce Reznik, executive director of San Diego Baykeeper were joined by 5th grader students from Webster Elementary School to launch Project SWELL, (Stewardship: Water Education for Lifelong Leadership.).
Project SWELL is part of the San Diego City Council's effort to clean up beaches and bays and prevent water pollution through proactive education. The City of San Diego has partnered with San Diego Baykeeper, the Port of San Diego and the San Diego Unified School District to teach students about pollution and its effects on the environment. Project SWELL will teach students about watersheds and how every day activities can contribute to downstream pollution.
