Completed Projects/Issues - Other Projects

2001 Accomplishments in Carmel Valley Area

Forced Developer to clean up weeds in medians
A former area developer who had gone bankrupt was tracked down and required to do median landscaping and construction and clean the areas that had become overrun with weeds. Councilman Peters had the weeds cut down immediately and is working with the City Attorney's office to pull the developer' s performance bonds and complete the median improvements.

Carmel Valley Dog Park Sited
Councilman Scott Peters worked with Friends of Carmel Valley Dogs, and the Carmel Valley community to find a location for a dog park in Carmel Valley at the Torrey Highlands Park. The proposal to fence a one acre portion of the southern end of the park was supported by local athletic groups, Friends of Carmel Valley Dogs, and the Carmel Valley Community Planning Board.

Carmel Valley Library Extended Hours
Councilman Scott Peters worked with his colleagues during the budget process to increase funding for libraries citywide. Through this action, the Carmel Valley Branch Library hours were extended to include Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Safe Route to Sage Canyon Elementary
Councilman Peters ensured installation of a stop sign at Carmel Mountain Road and Trotter Lane prior to the International Walk To School Day (October 2, 2001). The stop sign not only provides a safe crossing on a school route, it also slows speeding traffic along Carmel Mt. Road. Councilman Peters was pleased to join the community for International Walk To School Day activities on October 2, 2001.

Implemented Carmel Country Road Traffic Calming
Portions of Carmel Country road have been reduced to two lanes from four with striping to reduce speeding on the road. Council District One also authorized the installation of an all-way stop at Derrydown Way and Carmel Country Road.

Black Mountain Road Closure Signs
Del Mar Heights Road will not be reconnected with Black Mountain Road until the SR-56 freeway is completed, but residents living on Seachase Street had been suffering from increased traffic as drivers encountered the closed road. Council District One directed that signs be installed to alert drivers of the road closure and traffic in this area has decreased substantially.

Sage Canyon Elementary School Joint Use Park
On August 4, 2001 Councilmember Peters oversaw the opening of the 11.5 acre neighborhood park. The City will share 4.5 acres with the Del Mar School District as a joint use area.

Two New Parks to Open in 2002
Councilman Peters worked closely with Park & Recreation to complete the Carmel Knolls and Ashley Falls neighborhood parks. The Carmel Knolls Park is scheduled to open February 16, 2002 and the Ashley Falls park is scheduled to open in March of 2002. These important facilities will enhance recreation choices for Carmel Valley residents.
