Canyon Crest Academy Breaks Ground
On November 21, 2003, Councilman Scott Peters joined San Diegutio Union High School District school board members to break ground on Canyon Crest Academy, the new high school in Carmel Valley. The new school will focus on technology and the arts and relieve overcrowding at Torrey Pines High School.
Councilman Peters became involved in the project when the school district came to the City with a request to reconfigure a plan for a park site near where the new school will be built, near the future intersection of Camino Santa Fe and SR 56. The school district said that their original school design did not fit correctly into the current parcel and suggested that the proposed park site be moved to accommodate the school. Unfortunately, this was not an easy land swap. Instead it required serious negotiation between the City, Pardee Homes and the school district to make everything work. All sides worked well together to iron out their differences, because they were working toward the common goal of helping our kids. Councilman Peters was pleased to be able to bring the parties together and make sure that the agreement was completed as quickly as possible to help reduce the overcrowding at Torrey Pines High School.
