Utility Undergrounding
by Councilman Scott Peters
for the La Jolla Village News
January 2002
The blocks scheduled for undergrounding in District 1 have been set. There are twenty-four
(24) utility line undergrounding projects planned for District One
over the next eighteen (18) years.
The Mayor and City Council developed a comprehensive residential undergrounding program in 2002. Councilman Peters determined that the fairest way to choose the order of undergrounding projects in District One would be through a public lottery held at the La Jolla Community Planning Association ("CPA"), University City Planning Group and Carmel Valley Planning Group November meetings. CPA member Walt Hall chose the blocks at random from a hat, UC blocks were chosen by board chair, Stan Siegle and Carmel Valley blocks were selected by board member Anne Harvey. The undergrounding schedule and maps can be viewed by clicking on the links below..
At the request of Councilman Peters, the City of San Diego is also
offering residents two alternative undergrounding options. These
programs will give property owners the opportunity to expedite undergrounding
in their neighborhoods. The alternative procedures are listed below.
