La Jolla Shores Lifeguard Ambassador Program
Councilman Scott Peters has allocated $20,000 from his office budget to hire two lifeguards for a Lifeguard Ambassador Program at La Jolla Shores. The ‘ambassadors’ will provide visitors to La Jolla shores with information and provide better enforcement of beach and parking rules in the area.
The $20,000 allocated by Councilman Peters will add two lifeguard ambassadors to the current lifeguard staff of nine, who will concentrate on beach activity and safety. "Lifeguards are some of the most important people in our neighborhood, playing a critical role in our beach communities. The new Ambassador Program will provide our visitors with information and direction, and provide residents with reassurance that rules of the area will be understood and enforced," said Peters.
La Jolla Shores is one of the busiest beaches in San Diego. Families, surfers, scuba divers and young adults favor La Jolla Shores both day and night. With a 29% increase in beach visits from 2001, San Diego continues to attract beachgoers from around the world.
