Via Del Norte Pocket Park

Via del Norte Park, a rundown pocket park located in Bird Rock, needed major enhancements. Thanks to some private donations, Councilman Scott Peters was able to work with the community to enhance the park. The underutilized park, located in Bird Rock, has been transformed into a restful spot that families can use and enjoy.

Community members and city staff gathered to celebrate the opening of Via del Norte Park. The park was made possible by donations totaling $140,000. A special thank you went out to the City’s Park and Recreation staff and some instrumental neighbors, including Rees and Art Johnson, Merilyn Howard, Coco Bancroft, Delly Dorvillier, Stacey and Roger Haer, Glen Schmidt and Judy Ingalls.

"Via del Norte Park provides open space for La Jollans to enjoy and children to play. It builds more character in the Bird Rock neighborhood and is easy to walk to. I am proud that we were able to create a safe place for their children to play, and residents to relax" said Peters.

The Via del Norte Park enhancements include two swing sets, a picnic table, renovated landscaping and a decorative wall with plaques. The enhanced pocket park is a stepping stone to the future improvements planned in Bird Rock and the Upper and Lower Hermosa neighborhoods.
