Completed Projects/Issues - Roads & Infrastructure
Adobe Bluffs Elementary
Councilman Scott Peters spoke to 2nd and 3rd graders at Adobe Bluffs Elementary about how they participate in civic events. Scott and the students talked about issues related to water and air pollution, traffic and speeding in residential neighborhoods. The students said that they felt there needed to be new trees planted around Rancho Peñasquitos .
On November 16, 2002 Mayor Dick Murphy and District 1 Councilman Scott Peters were joined by the Rancho Peñasquitos community to kick off the Mayor's "Community Forest Initiative." The initiative calls for the planting of 5,000 trees per year in San Diego for the next 20 years, resulting in a total of 100,000 trees. Adobe Bluffs elementary was chosen as the first site.
Twelve pine and Ash trees were planted in the front and along the perimeter of the school. Students from Adobe Bluffs Elementary, wearing tree hats, pitched in to help plant the trees around their school. Cheerleaders and the marching band from West View High School entertained and rallied the crowd of about 75 parents and children who attended the event, and Mayor Murphy called it one of the best community turnouts he had ever seen.
Councilman Peters would like to thank all of the students at Adobe Bluffs for hosting him at their school, and especially thank teacher Jill Mulligan for helping to arrange the visit.
