August 2 at 3:30 pm, Councilman Scott Peters presented a check on behalf of Black Mountain Ranch for $100,000 to be used for improvements and programs in the Black Mountain Open Space Park. Councilman Scott Peters was joined by Mike Kelly Chair of the Black Mountain Open Space Park Citizen's Advisory Committee and Ellen Oppenheim, Park and Rec Director to accept the check. Members of the Sierra Club, park rangers and community leaders were also in attendance.
The $100,000 contribution was secured for open space acquisition during negotiations surrounding the phased development of Black Mountain Ranch. Black Mountain Ranch is also obligated under the agreement to convey 1,813 acres of land to the City. The conveyed acreage will connect Black Mountain Open Space Park north to the San Dieguito River Park, west to Pacific Highlands Ranch Open Space and southwest to the Del Mar Mesa Open Space and Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve.
Councilmember Peters is optimistic about future improvements of the Black Mountain Open Space Park.
