Phase I of Black Mountain Community Park Now Open

Located on Carmel Valley Rd., north of Black Mountain Road, 13-acres of the planned 42-acre park are now open to the public. Under the original plans, the Black Mountain Community Park construction would not have started for years, but Councilman Peters worked hard to get this Park built, and broke ground on the first phase two years early.

On September 10th, Councilman Scott Peters joined local residents, Park and Recreation Department Director Ted Medina and Santaluz Project Director Joe Taylor in celebrating the completion of the First Phase of construction for the Black Mountain Community Park.

"Many of you may have noticed the construction over the past year at Black Mountain Ranch Community Park and the northern end of Black Mountain Road. Designed to serve the communities of Torrey Highlands, Black Mountain Ranch, and Rancho Peñasquitos , this 42-acre community park is being developed in three Phases. Phase I is completed and I am proud to be opening Black Mountain Community Park two years ahead of schedule," said Councilman Scott Peters.

Costing $6.7 million, Phase I opens 13-acres of new park amenities, four multipurpose sports fields, two parking lots, walkways and surrounding landscape and irrigation. The project funding was made possible by Facilities Benefit Assessment (FBA) monies. Phase II and III will include additional soccer fields in the eastern section of the park, basketball courts, additional Tot Lots, a recreation center and swimming pool.

Sixty-seven percent of the area in the newly developing Black Mountain Ranch community has been designated for parks, golf courses, and open space.
