New Speed Equipment for Rancho Peñasquitos

Speeding continues to be a problem in Peñasquitos as it is around San Diego. To raise the awareness about speeding on Black Mountain Road, Scott Peters worked with the community to hold the "Slow Down Around Town" rally on June 15, 2001. Over one hundred parents and kids joined Councilman Peters in the early morning to tell commuters to slow down and be mindful of pedestrians, especially kids, crossing the road to get to school.

Leading up to the rally, local elementary schools participated in a contest sponsored by the PQ Town Council to design a new "slow down" sign that people could place in their front yards or on roadsides to remind motorists to control their speed. The winning sign was created by Rebecca Cloyd (pictured above). Signs were paid for by donations from the San Diego Firefighters Association and the PQ Town Council. Signs can be obtained by calling the PQ Town Council at 858-643-9982 or the Diamond Gateway Chamber of Commerce.

Councilman Peters was also happy to support the San Diego Police Department's Northeastern Division by voting to accept a State grant that will allow the Police Department to create a special unit to combat drag racing on City streets.
