2001 Accomplishments in Torrey Hills

Open Space
Councilman Peters supports the community's desire to keep the parcel of land across from Vereda Sol Del Dios and East Ocean Air Drive as open space as shown in the community plan. Developers were seeking a community plan amendment to develop this land in exchange for another parcel of land planned for development. Without the support from Councilmember Peters the developer decided not to apply for the amendment which would have needed approval from the City Council.

Community Name Change from Sorrento Hills to Torrey Hills
On September 18, 2001 the Sorrento Hills Community Planning Board voted to request the City change the community name from Sorrento Hills to Torrey Hills. Councilman Peters has worked with city staff to develop a time line for approval of this name change and on February 5th the City Council initiated a community plan amendment to make the formal change.

YMCA Lease Agreement
With help from Councilman Scott Peters, the City and YMCA have agreed to terms for a 25-year lease paving the way for the YMCA to begin working with the community on design of this highly anticipated community recreational amenity.

Vista Sorrento Parkway
An agreement between the City, Caltrans and Westbrook Development moved the target completion date of this important link between Sorrento Hills and Sorrento Valley from 2005 to 2002.
