Calle Mar de Mariposa Traffic Calming
At approximately 6:40 a.m. on December 21 there was a hit and run accident on Calle Mar de Mariposa near Torrey Hills Elementary School.
According to many Torrey Hills residents speeding has long been a problem on Calle Mar de Mariposa. The issue came to a head when, after the December collision, the victim posted a "scarlet letter" sign on her damaged car to discourage speeders.
When residents reported the problem to Council President Peters, he asked City of San Diego Traffic Engineering to look into possible traffic calming measures for the area. Although the Fire Department determined that speed humps were unsafe for Calle Mar de Mariposa, Traffic Engineering did install an additional speed limit sign for eastbound traffic.
In addition, Council President Peters asked the San Diego Police Department to step up traffic patrols in the area. The increased traffic enforcement has greatly curbed speeding on Calle Mar de Mariposa and has alleviated the concerns of many Torrey Hills residents.
Council President Peters would like to thank the Torrey Hills community members who reported this situation and encourage all citizens to bring similar issues to his attention.
