Banner Program
In an effort to improve the aesthetics of the community, residents
of University City have come together to establish a banner district.
Under the leadership of Sandy Lippe, the University City Community
Association discussed ideas that would instill community pride and
beautify the neighborhood. As a result, Project Love was created
and a banner program was established. International City Bank has
agreed to sponsor the program, and donated $10,000 for the design
and installation of the community banners.
In early 2002, 40 to 50 banners will be placed on light poles on
Governor Drive, Genessee Avenue and Regents Road. The organizers
believe that the banners will serve as an important tool for community
identification, and also plan to use them to promote area events.
Banner programs have enhanced the quality of life in neighborhoods
throughout the City of San Diego.
