Standley Park Tot Lot

| (L-R) Park & Rec Director Ellen Oppenheim, Councilman Scott Peters, and Standley Tot Lot Chair, Cathy Lester, break ground on the park. |
On July 4, 2002 Councilman Scott Peters broke ground with the Community on a new play area at Standley Park in University City. To build the project as soon as possible Councilman Peters made the project one of his top priorities and allocated $139,000 in District 1 Park Bond money for the project. The Standley Park Recreation Council augmented that money with a successful fund raising campaign that added an additional $12,000 to make the project happen.
On October 30, 2002 Councilman Scott Peters celebrated the opening
of the new play area. On hand were Park and Recreation Department
Director Ellen Oppenheim, Standley Tot Lot Chair Cathy Lester, the
Standley Middle School Marching Band, and hundreds of children and
parents.
Councilman Peters and Tot Lot Chair Cathy Lester officially opened
the play area by sliding through a ribbon tied in the middle of
one of the slides on the playground.
