Stresemann Street Utility Lines are Underground
December 13, 2005 - Dedicated to keeping utility undergrounding projects on track, Council President Scott Peters joined over 200 Mission Bay Montessori Academy students and UC residents in Marci Park to celebrate the completion of the Stresemann Street utility undergrounding project.
SDG&E's safety mascot Louie the Lightning Bug provided lunch and safety coloring books for all of the children present. The crowed cheered as Council President Scott Peters and SDG&E crews lifted the last remaining pole in their neighborhood. "By working together with SDG&E, SBC and Time Warner Cable, residents can expect all overhead utility lines in Council District One to be underground by 2020," said Scott Peters.
Coordinating efforts with utility providers, the City of San Diego’s Stresemann under grounding project involved trenching and burying 5,844 feet of utility lines. The total cost of the project was $2.3 million.
As part of his continued effort to enhance and renew residential neighborhoods in District One, Council President Peters worked with the community to create a schedule for utility undergrounding in District One. Now that the blocks have been set, the fees spent on the utility undergrounding projects cannot be used by the City of San Diego for any other purpose.
