New Restrooms Improve University City Park
On March 4, 2006 Council President Scott Peters was joined by representatives of the city Park & Recreation department and the University City community for the "inaugural flushing" of new restroom facilities at University Gardens Neighborhood Park.
The prefabricated building replaces temporary bathrooms in place at the park, and are part of a larger park improvement project funded by the park bond approved by California voters in the year 2000. The $221,000 in state and city funds was requested by the Standley Recreation Council for the installation of a permanent restroom facility. Other improvements include a children’s play area, picnic area and new landscaping.
Council President Peters recognized the significance of the new restrooms for the community. "University Gardens Park is a popular place for kids and families. As a father myself, I know how often kids need to use the bathroom. I hope this new facility will make life a little easier for families in University City."
University Gardens Neighborhood Park contains athletic fields used by Little League baseball, softball and youth soccer, in addition to the picnic and play areas.
