Completed Projects/Issues - Torrey Hills Commercial Center Approved by City Council

San Diego, CA - Today, February 18, 2003, the San Diego City Council unanimously approved a permit to allow the development of the Torrey Hills Commercial Center. The project, commonly known as the "Vons Center," will occupy a vacant 17.2 acre parcel on the southeast corner of Carmel Mountain Road and East Ocean Air Drive.

"This center will greatly improve the quality of life of Torrey Hills and Carmel Valley residents by providing shopping in Torrey Hills while reducing the impact on Carmel Valley centers," said Councilman Peters. "I am also pleased that we were able to convince the developer to provide the community with a 1-acre dog park that will provide a great meeting place for area dog owners."

The new center will include a Vons grocery store, other food vendors, medical and retail office space. The center will also include a fenced 1-acre dog park that will be built and maintained by the owners of the center.

Residents in Carmel Valley's Neighborhood 10 will also be able to take advantage of the new center. Pardee Homes has agreed to a schedule that will complete construction of the Carmel Mountain Road bridge connecting Torrey Hills with Carmel Valley Neighborhood 10 by the end of 2003.
