After seventeen years of planning and permitting, the Via de la Valle Bike Lane is ready to ride! On December 1, Councilmember Scott Peters will join cyclists and community members in a special event celebrating the completion of Via de la Valle Bike Lane.

"This bikeway is an important transportation link and its completion is part of my continued effort to provide regional connectivity for both commuting bicyclists, and recreational enthusiasts," said Councilman Peters.

The Via de la Valle Bikeway is a continuous Class II bike lane that runs a mile and a half east and west, between San Andreas and El Camino Real, along the north and south side of Via De La Valle. The bikeway project construction broke ground in early June, which included the restriping of existing traffic lanes, adding approximately 30,000 square feet of new pavement, a traffic signal modification at the intersection of El Camino Real, and the construction of retaining walls to improve safety for cyclists.

The total cost of the project was $1.5 million, of which a large portion was funded by a SANDAG bicycle grant and the remaining $100,000 was provided by Black Mountain Ranch LLC.
