High-Speed Rail

A statewide high-speed rail transit project is the result of the Proposition 1A ballot initiative that voters passed in the fall of 2008. It will bring high-speed trains to San Diego. For more information visit the California High-Speed Rail Authority Website at www.cahighspeedrail.ca.gov.

Make Your Voice Heard

The California High-Speed Rail Authority is now accepting comments on proposed routes through the San Diego region. The comment period for ends on Friday, November 20, 2009. All comments must be received by this date.

2005 Program Level EIR/EIS

Councilmember Lightner has arranged for the 2005 environmental study of possible HST routes to be available for public review in the University Community Library, the North University Community Library, and the La Jolla/Riford Library. Letter to SANDAG Executive Committee (11/12/09)

Councilmember Lightner and Councilmember Frye wrote a letter to SANDAG’s Executive Committee on November 12, 2009 requesting that SANDAG’s comments to the California High-Speed Rail Authority include the following:

  1. An alignment alternative along I-15 to a station alternative at Qualcomm Stadium be included in the process.
  2. Summary of comments received at local public scoping meetings, including those which the CHSRA has acknowledged receiving.
  3. A corridor to the border should be studied as a part of the project level EIR/EIS.

Community Meeting (11/10/09)

Councilmember Lightner arranged for representatives from the California High-Speed Rail Authority to present to the community at the November 10, 2009 University Community Planning Group.

Press Conference (11/10/09)

Councilmember Lightner held a press conference along with other elected officials on November 10, 2009 to ask the CHSRA to study a route down I-15 to Qualcomm Stadium and extending HST to the border.

Public Meeting Regarding Proposed Routes (10/13/09)

The California High-Speed Rail Authority held a public scoping meeting for its San Diego high-speed rail segment on Tuesday, October 13th from 3 - 7 p.m.at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center (4126 Executive Dr, La Jolla, 92037) (at the corner of Executive Dr. and Genesee Ave.)

They also held two additional meetings in the San Diego area: Wednesday, October 14th from 3 – 7 p.m. at the Ramada Limited San Diego Airport (1403 Rosecrans St., San Diego, CA 92106) and Thursday, October 15th from 3 – 7 p.m. at the Escondido Center for the Arts (340 N. Escondido Blvd., Escondido, 92025.)

The purpose of the scoping meetings was to inform the public about proposed routes for the high-speed rail line through the area, and allow the public to express concerns about them. The information presented at the meeting can be found here:

The comments collected at the meeting, as well as the CHSRA's response to each comment, will be published as a part of the Alternatives Analysis Report. Between June and October 2010, the CHSRA board will release the Alternatives Analysis Report and select a preferred alternative route for the high-speed rail line.

The format of the meeting will be a workshop or fair, with displays, staff on hand to answer questions, and handouts, but no scheduled presentations. From 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. the meeting will be tailored to public agencies, and from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. the meeting will be tailored to members of the public, although anyone can come and go at any time.
