Comprehensive Water Policy
Recognizing a need for a long-term plan to ensure that San Diego has an affordable and sustainable water supply, Sherri crafted her Comprehensive Water Policy. The policy – more than two years in the making with input from some 28 stakeholder groups – was unanimously passed by the City Council in October 2011. The policy incorporates all available tools from conservation to emerging technologies like desalination and advanced water treatment to resources we already have in the ground, such as purple pipe for recycled water.
The City Council recently approved the formation of the Water Policy Implementation Task Force, which will be charged with coming up with an action plan for the policy as well as developing goals, timelines and measurements for success.
The task force will be made up of 11 citizens with the following backgrounds:
- biotechnology and life sciences
- building and facilities industry
- business and economic development
- environmental advocacy
- hospitals and healthcare
- hotels, restaurants, and tourism
- landscaping industry
- ratepayer advocacy
- water law
- water supply and climate research
- water technology and hydrology
Sherri will be working with Councilmember Lorie Zapf to select members of the task force. The full City Council will then approve the slate of nominees. If you are interested in serving on the Water Policy Implementation Task Force, please email Sherri at firstname.lastname@example.org.
