La Jolla Lifeguard Towers

Since her time as a community volunteer, Sherri has been working to get new lifeguard towers built at La Jolla Shores, Children's Pool and La Jolla Cove in order to improve our lifeguards' ability to protect our beaches.

The La Jolla Shores Lifeguard Tower was completed in May 2013, and the lifeguards are enjoying their new vantage point over the boardwalk from this state-of-the-art facility. In 2015, the La Jolla Lifeguard Station won a “Project of the Year” award from the American Public Works Association (APWA) for “Structures under $2 Million”.

The Children's Pool Lifeguard Tower started construction in June 2013 and is scheduled to be completed in late fall of 2015. The new tower will be located in the best vantage point along this stretch of the coast and allow for 270 degree views of five surrounding beaches. This tower is critical because of the high volume of rescues and preventative actions in the area due to dangerous rip currents and reefs nearby.

The La Jolla Cove Lifeguard Tower is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2015. This project also includes construction of a new ADA accessible ramp that will improve access to the lower deck area at the Cove.
