Matt Awbrey
Communications Director/Audit Committee Consultant
Matt Awbrey is Kevin's Communications Director and Audit Committee Consultant. He has served in the Second District office since 2006.
As Communications Director, Matt manages traditional- and social-media relations and communications for Kevin. He also oversees the District 2 website. As consultant to the Audit Committee, Matt provides policy analysis to Kevin and logistical support to the Audit Committee, which has oversight responsibility of the City’s auditing functions and directs performance audits to improve the effectiveness of City operations, reduce costs and waste, and increase public accountability.
A native San Diegan, Matt has worked at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C., and on a number of local political campaigns. Matt also has served as an elected representative for a local non-profit organization and held volunteer management positions for several community fundraising events. He earned bachelor’s degrees in International Relations and Communications from the University of California at Davis. During his time with Kevin, Matt has also served as his Policy Director and as a Council Representative to many of the district’s beach and urban communities.
