Mission Beach, Ocean Beach, and Pacific Beach representative Chet Barfield came to Council District Two from the Office of Interim Mayor Todd Gloria, where he was a community representative for District Two, and handled the policy areas of veterans and military affairs. He previously worked in the District Six Office of Councilmember Donna Frye where he was a community representative for Mission Valley, a policy advisor on key issues, and editor of Donna’s monthly newsletter, Fryelights. Prior to entering public service in 2008, Chet was a Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist for the San Diego Union-Tribune.

On weekends, he plays guitar and sings freestyle blues at a Mission Beach café. A Vietnam-era Navy veteran, Chet has lived in San Diego since 1986 and is the proud father of Miranda Barfield, a 2013 Point Loma High School graduate attending UCLA.
