As your Councilmember I do lots of different stuff but critiquing yard work is not among them. Read on...

A number of North Park residents have contacted my office in recent days about a letter circulating in the neighborhood. The letter is usually found on the doorstep, criticizes the upkeep of the recipients' yard and is signed with my name.

I did not write, authorize or endorse this communication. While a part of my duties as your Councilmember includes assisting neighborhoods with problem properties and addressing code violations, I would never use such an unprofessional approach to this kind of problem.

In the future, if you receive a letter purportedly from District Three that is not on official letterhead, please call my office to verify the letter's legitimacy. I apologize for any confusion or frustration this false letter may have caused to anyone who has received a copy. I appreciate all of the constituents who have brought this to my attention.

Street Fair Volunteers Needed

Furthering my commitment to you to be as accessible as possible, my staff and I have booths at most of the District's fairs and festivals. We often need volunteers to help us set up and take down the booth as well as joining us to staff the booth during the events. Staffing the booth usually consists of greeting your neighbors, distributing City informational brochures and taking questions or concerns.

The benefits include quality time with me and the Todd Squad, developing a great summer tan, interacting with the good people of District Three and access to some of the best street fairs and festivals in Southern California. I hope you can lend a hand.

Please send an email to toddgloria@sandiego.gov or call my office at 619-236-6633 if you can volunteer. Be sure to include your name, contact information and which events you might like to attend. A member of my team will follow up with you.

Thank you for helping me to connect local residents to our City government and further our cause of making District Three an even better place to live.

A Call for Easter Baskets for District 3 Children

Please join me in supporting the 8th Annual LGBT Community Easter Egg Hunt hosted by the Imperial Court de San Diego. This wonderful event will be held next Sunday, at 2:00 p.m. at Trolley Barn Park in University Heights.

I am collecting preassembled Easter baskets for neighborhood children that attend the event. Hundreds of local children are expected and no child should go home empty handed. Can you help me reach my goal of donating 100 baskets?

Baskets can be dropped off at my office located at 202 C Street, 12th floor until Friday, April 3rd. Have questions? Please contact Courtney Thomson in my office at (619) 236-6633.

Thank you for your support!

Our hard working crews from the Water Department expect water service to be restored to all North Park customers impacted by the water main break by 10 or 11 p.m. tonight. However, it will take a few hours longer to backfill the hole and make place a temporary asphalt patch down and reopen the street. The job will then be referred to the Street Division to make permanent street repairs. Thanks for your diligence, Water Department! Thank you for your patience, North Park!

March 1, 2010

As most of you know by now, a major water main broke this morning in North Park. I was onsite earlier today, and a member of my staff remains in the neighborhood to help provide resources and answer questions.

A 30-inch collector pipe in the 2800 block of Polk Avenue ruptured this morning. The Water Department is excavating and will have a clearer idea of the necessary fixes by this afternoon. Water service is shut off in the 2800 and 2900 blocks of Polk Avenue and may remain off for the rest of today. The 2800 block of Polk remains closed to traffic.

If you suffered property damage due to today's water main break, please visit the City of San Diego's Risk Management Department website and fill out a public liability claim form. http://www.sandiego.gov/riskmanagement/services/liability/index.shtml#liability.

I will post updates here as new information becomes available. If you have specific questions or concerns, please contact my office, 619-236-6633 or toddgloria@sandiego.gov.
