The Mountain View neighborhood boundaries include Imperial Avenue to
45th Street, Ocean View Boulevard to 35th Street. The community is mainly
composed of African-American and Latino people that are very close in
proportion.
The Mt. View Park site was acquired by the City of San Diego in 1874.
The site was dedicated as Mt. View Park on September 23, 1914. Additional
improvements were made in the following year, that by the year 1982 Mt.
View Park had 7.78 acres of turf, .16 acres of shrubs, .29 acres of natural
area, .22 acres of dirt infield, 4,352 sq. ft. tot lot, 10,060 sq. ft.
of multi-purpose courts, 15,480 sq. ft. of tennis courts, 1,502 sq. ft.
building, 19,163 sq. ft. sidewalks, 21,740 sq. ft. parking lot, 3,149
court game area and 7,050 sq. ft. of lawn edging.
The
Mountain View Park & Community Center has become one of the major
focal points and has increased community involvement through special events
participation as well as learning from each others’ diverse background.
The Mountain View community has recognized that a safe environment for
families to interact brings awareness and tolerance to different cultures
and builds positive relationships between residents and their families.
