The Honorable Mark Kersey

Councilmember Mark Kersey was sworn in to represent the City of San Diego's Fifth District in December 2012. He is currently the Chair of the Council's standing Committee on Infrastructure and Vice Chair of the Economic Development and Intergovernmental Relations Committee. He is also a member of the Public Safety & Livable Neighborhoods Committee, and the Budget & Government Efficiency Committee.

Prior to being elected to public office, Mark founded a local independent research and consulting firm focused on the telecommunications and high-tech industries.

Mark is committed to the economic prosperity of the San Diego region and solving regional issues, such as infrastructure. He has outside appointments on the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp. (EDC) and the San Diego Foundation's Civic Engagement Vision Action Team. He is also the alternate City representative to San Diego Association of Governments committees on the Border, Regional Planning and Transportation. He founded the World Trade Center San Diego Latin America Desk, which supports local businesses looking to expand into Latin America.

Mark is involved in a variety of community organizations, including the Rancho Bernardo Rotary Club and the Rancho Bernardo Business Association. He served five years as the Advisory Board Chair to First Book San Diego, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving childhood literacy. He is also a longtime supporter of the Rady Children's Hospital Foundation.

Mark is an alumnus of Northwestern University and the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management. In his spare time, he enjoys coaching Little League and taking his son Tyler to Padres and Chargers games.
