Almis Udrys
Deputy Chief of Staff
Almis Udrys is Deputy Chief of Staff and manages policy issues for Councilmember Kersey. Prior to joining the 5th District staff, Almis served Mayor Jerry Sanders as point person on state government relations, budget and infrastructure issues, information technology, and environmental policy. During his time with Mayor Sanders, Almis oversaw successful resolution to the city's structural budget deficit, implementation of managed competition and outsourcing of nearly a dozen city functions, streamlining and greater community involvement in the capital improvement program, expansion of the city's efforts to provide contracting opportunities for small and local businesses, and better coordination between public and private entities on street resurfacing and utility excavation projects.
Almis has been in public service for over ten years. He began his career evaluating and improving state government operations at the California State Auditor's office, continued as a consultant in health care policy for the State Legislature, and staffed the development of a bi-partisan budget agreement and pension reform during the administration of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Almis has a B.A. with highest honors in International Business & Spanish from Hillsdale College and a Masters in Public Policy from Pepperdine University. He speaks or dabbles in more than four languages. In his spare time, Almis, his wife, and their two children travel to his wife's homeland of Italy.
