FRYE ACCEPTS DONATED LAND FOR THE MISSION VALLEY LIBRARY CHILDREN'S GARDEN
Garden will include meandering water and lush landscaping with areas to relax and read

San Diego - San Diego City Council Member Donna Frye announced today that IKEA Company has donated land to the City of San Diego for the new Mission Valley Branch Library Children's Garden. The land, in the form of a landscape easement, covers approximately 3300 square feet.
"This generous donation by IKEA will allow us to proceed with the development of the Children's Garden," Frye stated. "The garden will include meandering water and lush landscaping with areas to relax and read."
The Mission Valley Library, San Diego's first library of the 21st Century, will be approximately 20,000 square feet on a two-acre site. The library is located in the Fenton Marketplace next to the Fenton Parkway Trolley Station. The new library has a strikingly unique design that respects the historical past, reflects the present, and has an eye toward the future. In addition to the Children's Garden, the library will overlook the San Diego River with a second floor mezzanine outdoor space where visitors can read while enjoying the environment.
"I'm proud to be able to take part in the construction of the first library ever to be built in Mission Valley," Frye said. "There's a growing awareness that Mission Valley is now a community. The Mission Valley Branch Library is the first step in Mission Valley truly becoming a neighborhood. Residents who live and work in the valley will now be able to walk or take the trolley to their own local branch library."
The new Mission Valley Library is scheduled to be completed in Spring of 2002.
