Frye Seeds Urban Reforestation for District Six Community Tree Planting Event San Diego, California - Councilmember Frye in partnership with People for Trees turned ground today at an urban reforestation event for the communities of Serra Mesa and Mission Village. Councilmember Frye along with community volunteers served as environmental stewards lining Mission Village Drive with 30 trees. Councilmember Frye commented that, " Today's reforestation event was not only a step toward a healthier environment but also fostered community pride. Anytime we're able to accomplish both of these things we are truly meeting our goal to improve the quality of life in our city." Councilmember Frye shares the values of People for Trees and their vision to create; "Greener, cooler, more healthier communities for the benefit of all." Councilmember Frye allocated $15,000 to People for Trees in support of their continued efforts to reforest the communities of District Six. In addition to sponsoring the tree planting event, Councilmember Frye funded $7,500 to assure the proper maintenance of the trees that were planted today. The goal of People for Trees is to build a, "Healthy community forest, now and for future generations." Since its' inception in 1989 People for Trees has planted over 35,000 trees with the help of donations and numerous volunteers. Frye states, "Through a continued commitment to establishing a urban forest, we not only benefit today, but we leave a legacy that we can all be proud of." # # # |
