District Six Canyon Parks Hold Nature And Bird Walks

Tecolote Canyon Natural Park and Marian Bear Memorial Park Trail Leaders Reveal Parks Natural Beauty

San Diego ? Councilmember Frye urges San Diego residents to take part in nature and bird walks provided by the City of San Diego, Park and Recreation Department. Nature lovers will join trail leaders next Saturday at Tecolote Canyon Natural Park as part of their regularly scheduled trail walk.

?Growing up in Clairemont I spent a lot of time exploring the local canyons and getting to know one of our City?s most unique recreational resources,? Frye stated. ?These nature walks give everyone access to learn more about the canyons and how to use the trails safely.?

All three of the nature and bird walks are held on Saturday mornings. On the first Saturday of each month, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Marian Bear Memorial Park trail leaders will guide participants through the nature trails pointing out the different aspects of the parks nature and history. For the Marian Bear Nature Walk meet at the parking lot on the west side of Regents Road.

On the third Saturday of each month, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Tecolote Park trail guide will lead participants on a walk through huge oak groves and identify many of the birds that make Tecolote Canyon their home. The meeting place for the Tecolote Canyon Nature walk is the Fox Run parking lot off of Boyd and Genesee.

On the fourth Saturday of each month, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Wayne Harmon from the Audubon Society leads a bird watching walk along Tecolote Creek. Persons who are interested Tecolote Canyon Bird Walk should meet at the Tecolote Nature Center located at 5180 Tecolote Road.

?The nature and bird walks are great for families that want to have a fun, educational and free activity for all ages. I encourage every one to take part in these nature walks and get to know the amazing nature that we all live so close to,? commented Frye.
