Councilmember Frye and Mayor Murphy Cut Ribbon on New Silver Terrace Park Silver Terrace will serve the park deficient communities of Mission Valley and Linda Vista San Diego, CA... Today, Councilmember Donna Frye was joined by Mayor Dick Murphy, Ellen Oppenheim, Director of Park and Recreation, and community leaders to cut the ribbon on the new Silver Terrace Park. The ribbon cutting celebration officially marked the opening of the long awaited park. The new Silver Terrace Park serves the park deficient communities of Mission Valley and Linda Vista. "My number one priority is to preserve and create open space throughout District Six. There is no element more basic to creating vibrant communities than public space to gather and recreate," commented Frye. Last minute funding shortfalls almost brought the expansion project to a halt. Councilmember Frye was able to secure $100,000 to make sure the Silver Terrace Park project would not face further delays. From this once vacant parkland, Silver Terrace Park now has passive recreation opportunities, seating and picnic facilities, barbeques, and a playground. Even though the park is not even an acre in size, the impact will be great on the surrounding neighborhood. "The Linda Vista Recreation Council was instrumental in the design and implementation of this project," said Frye. "The success of park projects like this is dependent upon the input of the community. When the City and the community work together towards a common goal the results are amazing." # # # |
