Frye and Firefighters Hand Out San Diego, California...Today, Councilmember Donna Frye joined Fire Chief Bowman and San Diego City Fire Fighters in handing out holiday food and Christmas trees to needy families. The event was held at Fire Station 23 in Linda Vista. "As we go into this holiday season it is important to make sure that all of our families have the basic ingredients for a happy holiday," said Frye. "This is a great opportunity for all of us to give back to the community." "The holiday tradition of reaching out to provide assistance is alive and well all year long at the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department," commented Fire Chief Bowman. "San Diego's firefighters are thankful for the continual support received from their communities and welcome the opportunity to give back to the people they serve," said Bowman. One hundred pre-selected families each received a basket with the staples for a traditional holiday meal including a turkey and potatoes, donated by San Diego City Firefighters. Each family also received an ornamental Christmas tree, donated by the Pinery Tree Farm. Santa made an appearance to hand out holiday gift stockings to the children who attended with their family. "I truly appreciate the effort that the Firefighters put into making this event successful every year," commented Frye. # # # |
