Councilmember Donna Frye to Join San Diego Baykeeper to Celebrate SAVE THE BAY 2004

On Saturday, May 8th, San Diego City Councilmember Donna Frye will join San Diego BayKeeper and the local kayak and paddle community to help bring San Diegans together to celebrate the region's bays and beaches at the 4th annual Save The Bay celebration.

"It's critical that we continue to raise awareness of the importance of clean water," Frye stated. "Clean beaches and bays give locals as well as tourist an opportunity to truly experience a fun clean day at the beach."

Save the Bay 2004, to be held at West Bonita Cove (Mission Bay), brings together water sport enthusiasts, community leaders and concerned San Diegans to celebrate the bays and beaches that are essential to our way of life. "The goal of Save the Bay is to get people on the water while raising awareness of how we can all play a role in protecting our natural resources," stated BayKeeper's Executive Director Bruce Reznik.

Save the Bay 2004 runs from 9:00AM to 2:00PM and features Paddle for the Bay (bay & open ocean racing), environmental education, water sport demonstrations (including outrigger and kayak instruction and kayak water polo), and nature tours for family and children. Rounding out the festivities will be appearances by past and present Olympic athletes, Dragon Boat exhibition, music and food.

"This is an important event to raise awareness of the need to keep our local waterways clean and accessible to everyone," said Debbie Miller from Ikuna Koa Outrigger Club. "Save The Bay offers a great opportunity for everyone from novice paddlers to Olympic athletes to enjoy our local waters in an environmentally friendly manner."
