Today Councilmember Donna Frye removed the last utility pole on Morena Boulevard marking the end of the year long undergrounding project.
"After decades of unfulfilled promises to the surrounding residents by prior City officials, I am happy to be here to remove the final pole," said Frye.
This undergrounding project extends from Napier Street to Ariane Drive at the northern most end of Morena Boulevard, covering 18,900 feet. It took over a year of construction and cost approximately $4,500,000.
This project is just one of Councilmember Frye's many efforts to make Morena Boulevard a safe and attractive entry way to the communities of Clairemont and Linda Vista. She has also provided funding for the landscaping of medians on the southern end of Morena Boulevard, planted over 100 trees along Morena Boulevard, installed two traffic lights and re-striped the traffic lanes to discourage street racing at the northern end of the Boulevard.
"Morena Boulevard is an important access point to and from Mission Bay, Pacific Beach, Old Town, Ocean Beach, the I-5 and much more," Frye stated. "Making this area safe and attractive will bring people back to the Morena area."
Also in attendance this morning were the City's Undergrounding Coordinator and representatives from SDG&E, SBC and Cox Cable.
