Latest Update (PDF: 1.4Mb)

The City of San Diego has been working to place utility wires and lines underground since the 1970s. Undergrounding of utilities allows the removal of overhead structures like poles and wires.

Residential Undergrounding
Beginning in 2005, clusters of residential streets called "residential blocks" will be undergrounded in addition to the prime, major, and collector streets. View a map of District 6 (PDF: 47K) which shows numbered "residential blocks" in the order that they will be undergrounded at the rate of about one block per year for 29 years.

Prime, Major & Collector Streets
