The Allied Gardens Community Park Is a Very Busy PlaceIf you think your lawn endures a lot of foot traffic, take a look at what happens on just one day at the park. Here is a variety of activities that took place on Saturday, November 17, 2007.
Bocce BallEach Saturday, a number of bocce ball players enjoy a game on a level portion of the grass. Here, a dedicated team member walks down to check out how close his team's bocce balls are to the pallino (the white ball). Flag FootballEach fall the Park and Recreation Department runs a flag football league. Team members from Allied Gardens played against the San Carlos team.
SpidermanTaking time off from fighting evil, a large Spiderman inflatable bouncer is poised to lend fun-filled jumping to attendees of a birthday party.
Society of Creative Anachronisms
The Society of Creative Anachronisms is dedicated to recreating the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Nearly every week you can find a group of these dedicated members practicing their skills in defending the realm. Today, many members were dressed in their elaborate costumes and a festival was held, which included a tournament to test fighting skills. Those who were about to do battle gathered in true tradition to recite a creed of honor before entering the roped-off ring.
The Playground SwingsEvery day of the year the Allied Gardens Community Park playground is filled with children (and sometimes adults) enjoying one of the simplest and oldest forms of sheer fun and entertainment. Crusaders Soccer
The nearly 2,000 participants in the Crusader Recreational Soccer League ended their 2007 season today. Members of "White Lightning" and "The Lady Bugs" (ages 6 and under) ended their season with "The Lady Bugs" winning with a final score of 2 - 0. Following the game and in keeping with the spirit of teamwork, learning soccer skills and to having fun, "White Lightning" coach/parent Ralph Hanna handed out participation trophies to team members who had a good time. |
