CentrePointe Site Making Progress

Photo of CentrePointe Site Cleanup

It was originally planned to be a mixed-use residential and commercial center, but when the economy took a downturn, everything came to a screeching halt. For this north Rolando Village neighborhood, the nearly 9-acre site has been a point of aggravation for people who live and work in the area. It wasn't only the piles of cement block and steel rebar which created this eyesore; Graffiti vandals hit on a regular basis and the cement islands with trees and bougainvillea were a haven for trespassers. Wandermere Repaved

After being contacted by people who live in this San Carlos/Del Cerro neighborhood, District 7 Council Representative Chris Pearson took the issue about this deteriorating road to Councilmember Marti Emerald. Ms. Emerald came out, took a look, and agreed; Wandermere Drive couldn't wait for the utility undergrounding project scheduled for sometime in 2011. It needed work - ASAP! Although some patching of the road was done earlier this summer, that wasn't enough. On Monday, August 17th, this asphalt "topping" project began. Read more about Wandermere...

East Falls View Drive Speed Bump

The residences of East Falls View Drive were having a problem with people speeding down their street for years. After much work and dedication from community member Nancy Childers a speed lump was installed on their street in hopes of reducing the amount of speeding motorists. This effort was to no avail, the large gap in the center of the lump which is for emergency vehicles was being taken advantage of by motorists who would drive through the center to avoid the lump and continue speeding down the road. It was evident that speed lumps were not the answer a full speed bump is what was needed. Read more about East Falls View Drive...

Sewer Rehabilitation Project Beginning in November 2009

Beginning in November 2009, the City of San Diego will begin Phase I1-D of a Sewer Rehabilitation project in the Eastern Area of District 7. The construction is estimated to last approximately seven months. Once the contract has been awarded to a construction firm, the Field Engineering Division will take the lead on outreaching to the community and residents through notices and site meetings.

This is a $2 million project covering four Council Districts and ten different community planning group areas. This is part of a program established by the City of San Diego and the Environmental Protection Agency mandating the rehabilitation of old and deteriorated concrete sewer mains. This project includes the rehabilitation of 23,232 linear feet (4.4 miles) of sewer main which would occur in the City's right of way utilizing trenchless technology. Access to rehabilitate the sewer mains will be through the existing manholes and/or cleanouts. Other related work within the City's right of way would entail the connection of laterals to the rehabilitated mains, manhole rehabilitation and several external spot repairs to existing sewer mains. The rehabilitation of existing sewer mains will improve the sewage collection systems within the areas of the project.

Any questions regarding this project can be directed to Project Manager Chris Gascon at 619.533.7418 or Project Engineer Jenny Jarrell at (619) 533-5224.
