On Saturday, August 1st, Marti was part of a big birthday celebration as long-time Tierrasanta resident Bette Mark hosted a party for her mother, Libby, who turned 100. With family and friends gathered around, Libby loved the attention and the surprise visit from City Councilmember Marti Emerald.

Before Libby retired, she taught 1st grade in Brooklyn, NY, but finally traded the snow and cold for sunny San Diego. Fiercely independent, Libby drove until 4 years ago. In her spare time she loves to play Rummy Q and knit baby caps for the newborns at Pomerado Hospital. Libby keeps her mind sharp as a tack by reading and working word puzzles and says she’ll never forget this very special party.
