22nd Annual Lewis Middle School Read-In

Photo of 22nd Annual Lewis Middle School Read-In

Councilmember Marti Emerald joined a number of parents, teachers, librarians, retired teachers & administrators, and business representatives to read to Lewis Middle School classes as part of the 22nd Annual Lewis Middle School Read-In June 4, 2010. Principal Brad Callahan and Librarian Jodie Boeger welcomed the volunteer readers which included San Diego Fire Chief Javier Mainar and San Diego School Board member Shelia Jackson among the many other community leaders. Special thank you to Library Technician Louise Ellis and the many student volunteers who worked so hard to make this event a success. Councilmember Emerald read to 8th graders in Mr. Steineman’s class. The students were very attentive and the discussion lively. Easily, the most popular “dignitary” of the day was Ms. Emerald’s thirty-two year old white Moluccan cockatoo named Cooper. Congratulations to these young men and women who are moving onto Patrick Henry, Scripps, and Lincoln High Schools next year.
