Annual Night Out Events Were A Big Hit in District Seven
Activities were held across District 7 on August 3rd to celebrate National Night Out, a nation-wide crime/drug prevention event bringing together citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials.
Councilmember Emerald joined fellow Councilmember Gloria, County Supervisor Ron Roberts, and Ron Lacey representing the Mayor’s office at an evening event at Colina Park sponsored by the City Heights Community Development Corporation. Councilmember Emerald gave a special thanks to Sidney Michaels, a 20-year resident of City Heights and dedicated volunteer in the City Heights community. Mr. Michaels recently initiated a neighborhood watch program in his apartment complex, which is already spreading to nearby residences. Councilmember Emerald congratulated him as a stellar example of what can be accomplished when residents get involved with their community and serve as the eyes and ears of the neighborhood. Later in the evening, Councilmember Emerald visited the Salvation Army Kroc Center on University Avenue. The “Kroc” himself was out in full force to greet the crowd of children while federal, state and local law enforcement provided their parents with a variety of resources on how to keep their families safe.
