Community Services oversees several social service programs that benefit San Diego residents and improve their quality of life. By providing direct services and funding community organizations, the City and its partners are tackling social issues that are important to San Diegans, including childcare, homeless assistance, youth programs, crime, disability services, neighborhood revitalization, senior services and many others.

Programs
Child Care Services
Child Care Services increases the accessibility, affordability and quality of child care, and encourages employer-supported child care efforts.
Clean Syringe Exchange Pilot Program
The City of San Diego is developing and implementing a one-year Clean Syringe Exchange Pilot Program with a drug abuse treatment referral component in response to a public health crisis relating to the rapid spread of the Hepatitis C Virus (HVC) and the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) through the shared use of needles and syringes.
Community Development Block Grants
Community Development Block Grants are used to prevent and eliminate neighborhood blight, and alleviate of serious and immediate threats to health and welfare.
Grants Administration
The grants coordinator assists City departments in researching and identifying grant funds from federal and state governments.
Homeless Services
Homeless Services plans, organizes and coordinates initiatives and strategies to assist the City's homeless community with other organizations.
"6 to 6" Extended School Day Program
The "6 to 6" Extended School Day Program keeps schools open before and after normal school hours to provide a safe place for youth with academic enrichment and recreational activities.
Social Services
Social Services funds a limited number of social service projects including senior nutrition, juvenile delinquency prevention, and homeless assistance.
