The City's grants coordinator assists City departments in researching and identifying grant funds from federal and state governments, encourages and coordinates the initiation of grant request, facilitates their submission, and acts as liaison with funding agencies whenever appropriate.
Grant funding is important to San Diego because it allows the City to fund projects and programs that are of importance to its operation. Grant funding is usually seed funding that can be used for new and/or innovative projects and in most cases the funding lasts for one to three years.
The City of San Diego received approximately $67 million in grant funding for Fiscal Year 2008.
